GSPro "API window not found": causes and fixes

Last updated 2026-09-30.

What it means: your connector (most often springbok, the MLM2PRO connector) looked for GSPro's Open API window, a small window titled APIv1 Connect, and couldn't find it. That window belongs to GSPro Connect, the part of GSPro that takes launch monitor shots. The same problem also shows up as "GSPro API window 'APIv1 Connect' doesn't seem to be running" (springbok issue #212).

It's nearly always one of these: GSPro Connect isn't open, your GSPro license isn't the Open API type, the connector is looking for a different window name, or things started in the wrong order.

Quick checks, safest first

  1. Get GSPro all the way in. Press Play on the GSPro Configuration screen (if it shows) and wait for GSPro to load. The APIv1 Connect window opens along with GSPro (A Guy With Ideas' R10 setup guide). Check the taskbar; it may be hiding behind GSPro.
  2. Reset GSPro Connect. In GSPro, open Settings > System and choose Reset GSPro Connect. GSPro's knowledge base says it relaunches the Connect application "without the need of restarting GSPro completely." Older advice calls it Reset API window under Game Settings (springbok discussion #94).
  3. Connect again, with GSPro already running. A springbok collaborator's advice: "try launching gspro before the connector" (issue #116).

If the APIv1 Connect window never shows up, even after a reset, go straight to cause 1.

Cause 1: your GSPro license isn't Open API

This is the one no restart fixes. You buy GSPro with one launch-monitor type. A maker's type (Garmin R10, Rapsodo MLM2Pro, FlightScope and others) has GSPro Connect talk to your device directly, and it shows no APIv1 Connect window.

  • Source: springbok's maintainer, to a golfer who had already restarted GSPro, the laptop and the API window: "You are running GSPro using the R10 GSPro license by the looks of it, the connecter uses the OpenAPI license." (discussion #162, December 2024)
  • And in July 2026: "you have to use the gspro openapi license for the window to appear" (discussion #139).

Fix: convert your license to OpenAPI with GSPro's License Conversion Tool, then clear GSPro Connect (cause 2) and restart GSPro. Know the trade: on Open API, GSPro no longer drives your launch monitor itself, so you need a connector for it. Mevo owners, see Mevo+ putting for both routes.

Cause 2: you converted, but GSPro Connect still shows the old type

  • Source: GSPro's how to clear GSPro Connect settings: "After converting your GSPro subscription between license types, it is typically necessary to 'clear' the Connect application so you can select the new type."

Fix: follow that page for your old type, then "restart GSPro to be presented with the new selection options."

Cause 3: GSPro Connect closed, crashed or stopped reconnecting

  • Source: GSPro's knowledge base (link above) describes Reset GSPro Connect for when "your Connect application fails to launch or is closed out of accidentally."
  • Source: the A Guy With Ideas R10 guide notes that APIv1 Connect "won't reestablish a connection" if the connector exits, and says to "restart the GSPro or the APIv1 Connect application to reconnect."

Fix: Reset GSPro Connect (quick check 2). If that doesn't bring it back, close GSPro fully and start it again, then the connector.

Cause 4: the connector is looking for a different window name

springbok finds GSPro's window by its title, and its setting defaults to APIv1 Connect.

  • Source: springbok's maintainer, July 2026: "make sure the title of the window matches what is set in settings" (discussion #139).

Fix: open the connector's settings and check that the GSPro API window name matches the title on your screen exactly.

Cause 5: the connector starts GSPro from the wrong file

If your connector opens GSPro for you, it should open GSPro.exe, not the launcher.

  • Source: the same springbok collaborator: "I find I need to point the connector to GSPro.exe, and not it's normal launcher" (issue #116). In discussion #94, the path that checked out was gsprov1/core/gsp/gspro.exe.

Fix: point the connector's GSPro path at GSPro.exe in GSPro's Core\GSP folder, or turn its auto-start off and open GSPro yourself first.

The window is there, but the connector still won't connect

GSPro takes one connected app at a time. springbok's maintainer: "You can't have two connections to gspro." (discussion #79). If another connector, a putting app, or a second copy of anything is already connected, close it fully, including anything by the clock in the system tray. The full story: why GSPro only takes one connector.

Still stuck?

Two reports of this exact error are still open without an answer (#189, #212). If you ask for help, include the connector's log (springbok keeps its logs in its appdata\logs folder) and a screenshot of the GSPro Connect window. License questions go to GSPro support at support@gsprogolf.com, the address on GSPro's conversion page.

How PuttBay handles it

PuttBay doesn't ask you to find this window at all.

  • It checks which license type your GSPro Connect is set to before anything tries to connect, and tells you plainly if it's a maker's license.
  • It connects to GSPro's Open Connect itself instead of hunting for a window by name.
  • If GSPro's connect app goes quiet, it says so in plain words: "GSPro's connect app went silent. Reset GSPro Connect in GSPro's settings, or Close GSPro too."
  • If another app already holds GSPro's connection, it names the app and waits instead of interrupting it.
  • Start GSPro opens GSPro, gets past its start screen and connects everything with one press.

PuttBay is free during the beta.
